We’re always on the case here at Fan Cinema Today (actually everyone’s always on my case, but hey, that’s just details). Here’s some new news on some old news:
• • • A while back, I mentioned that the actor who played Superman in Sandy Collora’s World’s Finest fan film, Mike O’Hearn, is now a regular on Masterpiece Theatre American Gladiators. Turns out he played another superhero recently…when he appeared as the Hulk for an episode.
Y’know, I can’t help but like O’Hearn; I mean, look at that photo. This is the dictionary definition of “Stupid Television” and he surely knows it, but watch his face—O’Hearn is out there, selling it as hard as he can. That is a team player, carrying the livelihoods of everyone who works on that show on his back.
• • • The Scud fan film contest is in fully swing, but it only has four or five entries so far, so there’s still time to get in on the action. That said, they look pretty good, especially the CGI test one.
• • • The Star Trek fan film series, Starship Farragut, which I wrote about waaaaay back when, just won the “Best Fan Film of 2008” award for the episode “For Want of a Nail,” at the new Wrath of Con convention, held in Panama City Beach, FL. Conference organizer Rick Albritton remarked, “‘For Want of a Nail’ sets a high standard for fan films, with solid writing, acting and high production values. The Starship Farragut team produced a compelling tale that is truly in a league of its own.”
