Everything Old Is New Again

Eagle-eyed FCT readers (there must be one somewhere) may have noticed that yesterday’s post on LOTR fan films linked to an old entry from 2007 that reviewed howitshouldhaveended.com. The thing is…er, that review wasn’t there before.

See, way back in April, 2007, I got the contract to write and instantly, I threw the blog into hibernation (I can’t write a book and a blog at the same time). Next, figuring that I could repurpose big chunks of text that I’d written here on FCT, I took down any post that looked like it might be useful for the book. Not a brilliant move—tons of links to the site were broken, and a lot of people got mad that they couldn’t find what they were looking for.

And the kicker is, I barely used any of that material at all. Maybe I lifted a turn of phrase here or a snide comment there, but pretty much everything in the book is brand-new. Which means I took all those posts down for nothing.

So while I was dreading it just for the sheer workload, I bit the bullet this week and put them all back online, with a handful of exceptions. I got to read a lot of the posts while I was doing that, and here’s some of the greatest hits of FCT v1.0.

Feb. 6, 2007: Fan Film Review: Watchmen Movies
Feb. 8, 2007: Gray Areas: Lucasfilm Backyard Film Contest
Feb. 13, 2007: Review: Batman Vs. Star Trek
Feb. 27, 2007: Fan Film Review: Beagle

March 20, 2007: Fan Film Review: Bustin’ Makes Me Feel Good

March 29, 2007: Gray Areas: The Alternate World of Fan Edits
April 4, 2007: Analysis: Big Media Wants You

There’s plenty of other good stuff so look around, but those are my favorites, plus they include the most searched-for “lost” post, the one on Watchmen fan films. The blog has changed a lot since then—I don’t write 900 words every damn day anymore, for one thing—but the old stuff has its charms.
