There’s been a lot of fan films based on video games in recent times, and the tidal wave isn’t stopping any time soon; now we’re moving on from obvious entires like Tomb Raider to more exotic fare, like flicks based on the classic Nintendo series, The Legend of Zelda. That game is now the inspiration for an upcoming feature-length fan effort, The Hero of Time.
A collaboration between director/co-producer Joel Musch and actor/co-producer David Blane—who stars as Link—the film was shot from August 2004 through January 2006, Since then, it’s been in post-production hell and only just finished this past October. The film hasn’t debuted yet, but a trailer is online and the movie’s brand-new website has additional info about when The Hero of Time will hit the net.
According to the site,
The film is set in Hyrule, where a young boy from the forest (Link) is beckoned by his dreams and the sage of the forest (Deku Tree) to venture to the city of Hyrule and seek princess Zelda’s council. The evil Lord Ganondorf has plotted to overthrow the kingdom, which propels Princess Zelda into hiding. Link endeavors to save them by pulling out the Master Sword in the Temple of Time–consequently sending him five years into the future, where Ganon now rules and threatens the future of the kingdom. Link must find a way to not only save his princess, but the land he’s fervent for.
