A mere 10 years ago, DC Comics famously shut down the first major Superman fan film on the internet, as recounted in Homemade Hollywood. These days, not only does DC approve of fan productions, so does the Metropolis Chamber of Commerce.
Every year, the town of Metropolis, IL holds its famous Superman Celebration; part of this year’s festivities will be the Second Annual Superman Celebration Fan Film Competition on June 13.
Sponsored by the Metropolis Chamber of Commerce and Inked Monkey Productions, the contest is looking for the best superhero-themed fan films of 15 minutes or less. Your movie can feature any existing or original superhero; crossovers are OK, even between different comic book companies; and the first-, second- and third-place winners get $300, $150, and $75, respectively.
