Fan Film, Fan Films

Bits and Pieces

Son of Rambow is continuing to pick up speed; Variety.com reports that the flick—which is about fan filmmaking in 1980s England—grossed $137,971 over the weekend, for a to-date total of $210,974 in the U.S. Paramount
Vantage plans to expand the movie to between 75 and 90 theaters on
Friday.

Be Kind Rewind—this year’s other feature film about fan filmmaking—has a DVD/Blu-Ray release date set for June 17. The flick, starring Jack Black and Mos Def, was written and directed by Michel Gondry; costing about $20 million (that’s a lot of cardboard!), it grossed a bit over $11 million in the U.S. and $7 million in the U.K. during its theatrical run.

• My fan film program in Lindenhurst, NY scheduled for this Wednesday has been postponed to the fall, ’cause I feel like crap—darn spring flus. Date TBA.
